How to Edit, Delete, Pin or Hide Comments in Instagram
Thankfully, Instagram is no longer what it used to be, and users can take actions in comments they left, or someone else left on their posts. When Instagram first rolled out, users were actually having full conversations in the comments section, since the Instagram inbox didn’t exist yet, and comments couldn’t be removed. Weird, right?
Although deleting comments has been around for some time now, Instagram still hasn’t implemented an ‘Edit Comment’ feature. All that a user can edit is the caption they have on their posts, but that’s about it! Since editing a comment is impossible, although frankly necessary, there are ways you can change your comment that had a typo!

How to delete comments on Instagram
Deleting other user’s comments on your posts
In order to delete a comment on Instagram, follow these steps:
- Open the Instagram app on your phone, and go to your profile.
- Open your post where the comment you wish to delete is.
- Open the comments section, and tap and hold on the comment you wish to delete. Another way of doing this is once you’ve opened the comment section, click on the three dots in the upper right corner, navigate to ‘Manage Comments’ and you will be given an option to select the comments you wish to delete.
- In the upper part of the screen, tap the trash icon. The comment will be deleted.
Deleting your comments from your or other people’s posts on Instagram
In order to delete your own comment on Instagram, follow these steps:
- Open the Instagram app, and open the post where you left the comment on, regardless if it’s on your post or someone else’s post.
- Tap and hold the comment, and tap on the trash can icon. Another way of doing this is swiping left on the comment, and clicking on the trash can icon once again. It will be marked in red.

What to do instead of editing a comment?
Unfortunately, Instagram does not allow editing a comment. If you made a typo, and need to change your comment, you will have to delete it. The best solution not to retype a comment would be copying what you commented, and rewriting the part you made a mistake, but you guessed it - Instagram doesn’t allow copying a comment either.
If you’re feeling too lazy to retype everything all over again, there is a not-so-simple hack to this issue.
You will need to open Instagram from the browser on your phone, and click the post where you left a comment. In the browser settings, click on ‘Desktop Site’. Now you will be able to select and copy the comment you left before deleting it. You can retype by pasting the comment and editing your errors directly on Instagram in the comment section, or simply open your Notes app to write the comment perfectly.
How to pin comments on Instagram
Pinning comments on Instagram is a relatively new feature, and can be done in a few easy clicks. You can pin your own comment, or other people’s comments, but this can only be done on your own posts. After a comment has been pinned, it will show up first in the comments section, along with a tiny pin icon. Follow these steps to pin a comment:
- Go to your Instagram profile, and open the post where you want to pin a comment.
- If you’re an iPhone user, you can just swipe left on the comment, and tap on the pin icon.
- If you’re an Android user, tap and hold the comment you want to pin. In the upper part of your screen, tap on the pin icon.
