TikTok is meant to be used for sharing fun video content and connecting to people. But, to protect its young audience, the social media app has very strict regulations on the type of content that can be posted.
The TikTok Community Guidelines feature guidelines that have to be followed when posting content on the app. Violations of the Community Guidelines can lead to penalties and get your account banned. This way TikTok makes sure inappropriate content is sanctioned and that the app remains a safe and fun space for users of all ages. Posts that are strictly prohibited on the platform include content that promotes bullying, drugs, alcohol, nudity, any form of sexual content, or content that threatens public safety.
But apart from TikTok banning users, in this article, we'll explore if you can get someone else banned on the platform.
There are different types of bans depending on the severity and frequency of the violations
Shadowban
Shadowban is a secret or indirect banning of a user with which TikTok limits the content of users to show up in other users’ feeds, meaning the user’s content won’t show up on other users' For You page. TikTok enforces this ban for minor violations in TikTok videos and it can last 1-3 days.
Livestreaming ban
TikTok can issue this ban on an account if the user’s previous Livestream was flagged for banned content or comments. The Livestream ban lasts from 24 hours to 48 hours.
Temporary ban
If you violate any of the guidelines, it can lead to a temporary ban from the platform which can last anywhere from one day to two weeks. After the ban expires, you can continue using the platform as before, being mindful of the TikTok policies.
Permanent ban
However, if you repeatedly break the guidelines, your account could be permanently banned from the platform. If this happens, the only solution is to create a new TikTok account with a different name.
However, apart from TikTok banning someone’s account, you might be wondering how to get someone’s TikTok account banned if you noticed that a person violates TikTok’s Community Guidelines.
If you see that a person is acting inappropriately, unfortunately, you cannot directly get them banned on TikTok. But you can report their account, which will bring TikTok’s attention to that account. TikTok will review the account and determine if they should ban the account.
If you see that a user posts harmful content that violates TikTok’s Community Guidelines, you have the option to report that content to bring it to TikTok’s attention.
Note that content moderation on TikTok is automated - content is not reviewed by humans. So some accounts or content that violate the community guidelines of Tiktok may not be detected by the system. This is why reporting an account that promotes violence, nudity, illegal activity, and spreads misinformation is a moral obligation for all TikTok users.
To report an account on TikTok:
There’s no clear information as to how many reports it takes for TikTok to delete an account.
Some sources speculate that the number of required reports for an account to be banned is at least three. However, TikTok hasn’t confirmed this.
For a TikTok to be deleted, if a person submits 10 reports, it usually takes less than 24 hours to process. But the whole process may last up to 2-3 days.
If you want to take one step further and can’t wait for TikTok to take action to ban the account or content, you can block someone’s account.
Blocking someone from your For You page only removes that account for you, but other users will still be able to see the account and the content they post.
To block a user on TikTok:
To see all your blocked accounts, go to Settings and privacy > Privacy > Blocked accounts.
