Ever since COVID broke out, keeping in touch with friends, and doing activities you used to do before has gotten extremely difficult.

However, since Disney has been among the leading streaming services for a while now, its developers created something that put Disney above all other streaming services - GroupWatch.

The GroupWatch feature allows Disney users to stream shows simultaneously, and up to 7 users can join the GroupWatch and enjoy some quality movie time.

On the other hand, since not everyone has a paid subscription and Disney Plus account, and it’s completely understandable that you’d want to have the whole group together on movie night, alternatives need to be found.

One of the mentioned alternatives is streaming shows and movies on Discord. However, there are some issues you might experience in the process, but we’ll explain how to get everything in order in the guide below, so, keep reading.

Am I allowed to stream Disney on Discord?

As you might know, streaming services like Disney Plus or Netflix usually don’t allow any type of sharing content, you might have noticed this when trying to make a screenshot on Netflix or Disney, and you only get a black screen.

Hence, streaming Disney Plus on Discord is technically not legal, and you shouldn’t be doing it.

However, people always find workarounds, especially in instances such as this one, and streaming is possible.

Unlike other apps, such as Zoom, Discord can have channels dedicated to streaming only, and a built-in voice chat feature, making it one of the best options on the market.

How do I stream Disney Plus on Discord?

In order to start streaming on Discord, you’ll need to go through a few steps:

  1. Changing the activity status

To change the activity status, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Discord app, and click on the gear icon in the upper-left corner of your screen.
  1. From the menu on the left side of the screen, go to activity settings.
  2. Click on ‘Add Game’.
  3. On the drop-down menu, select your game activity.
  4. In this section, select Google Chrome, or the browser you’ll be using to play Disney Plus.

After finishing these steps, you’ll be able to stream on voice calls.

2. Disabling Hardware Acceleration

This feature allows apps to use your computer’s graphic card, but it actually blocks content from being streamed on apps. Hence, you’ll need to turn it off. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. On Google Chrome, open ‘Settings’ by clicking on the three dots in the upper-right corner.
  2. In the search bar, look up ‘Hardware Acceleration’.
  3. On the following screen, toggle off the button next to the ‘Hardware Acceleration’ in order to turn it off.

Note: After finishing these steps, you’ll be able to watch Disney and screen share on Discord without getting the black screen issue.

3. Streaming the browser window

Before you start streaming, make sure to stream the right window that’s opened in your browser, i.e. where you’re playing Disney Plus.

Unfortunately, streaming above 720p is a feature that is available for Discord Nitro users only.

Also, you might experience issues on some Discord servers since streaming is illegal, therefore you should try the streaming option on a couple different servers.

  1. Streaming on a Mac laptop

With the newest update release, Apple decided to remove the ‘Hardware Acceleration’ feature from Safari, meaning you won’t be able to disable it.

Hence, your best bet is using Google Chrome from the start, so you’ll be able to stream with no issues whatsoever.

  1. Streaming from a mobile device

Streaming from a mobile device on Discord is also possible. However, streaming Netflix from the Netflix app, or streaming Disney from the Disney app will result in your sharing a black screen regardless.

Therefore, you’ll need to use a browser from your phone as well, and go through the steps that were mentioned in Step 2.
