It’s fun and amazing making friends with people on the other side of the planet, and there are a number of people who have created lifelong friendships on platforms such as this one.

Unfortunately, all major gaming platforms eventually succumb to issues such as cyberbullying, spammers, or simply rude and awful people in general.

However, there are ways for you to isolate yourself from these types of people altogether, with the optimal solution being blocking these users.

Xbox allows its users to block and unblock other users, which is helpful in cases of getting spam messages, or being contacted by fake profiles who might also be scammers.

It often happens for the wrong user to get blocked, or simply don’t want to have them blocked anymore, meaning you need to unblock another gamer.

How do I unblock someone on Xbox?

The processes of blocking and unblocking have the same steps, and it can be done in two ways: directly from the console, or using the Xbox mobile app. Also, you can block messages from spammers from the ‘Message Requests’ section.

Blocking/Unblocking users on Xbox One and Series X and Series S

  1. Turn your Xbox console on, and press on the Xbox button on your Xbox controller.
  2. The menu on your console will open, look for the ‘People’ feature, and click on it.
  3. A list of names will show up, scroll through the names and find the one you want to block or unblock.
  4. To block or unblock someone, you need to click and visit the profile of the user, and click on either block or unblock, depending on what you need.

Follow the same process for both blocking and unblocking.

Blocking message requests

As we mentioned, you can block spam messages on Xbox that come up in your ‘Message Requests’ section. This might come in handy, especially if you keep on receiving spam or abusive messages.

  1. Turn your Xbox console on, and click on the Xbox button on your controller to open the menu.
  2. From the menu, scroll to find ‘Parties and Chat’, and click and select ‘Message Requests’.
  3. In this section, you will only see messages from users that are not on your friends list on Xbox.
  4. To start the process of blocking the conversation, select one of the conversations you want to get rid of.
  5. Click on the ‘More Actions’ feature, and click on ‘View Profile’.
  6. On this screen, you can select ‘Block’ or ‘Report’, depending on which action you’re planning to take.

Note: In case you make a mistake, you can unblock the person following the same steps we mentioned above.

Blocking/Unblocking users using the Xbox App

Blocking and unblocking can also be done from the Xbox app, which is available for both iOS and Android users.

To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Download and install the Xbox app if you haven't already.
  2. Log in to your Xbox account using your credentials.
  3. In the Search Bar, search for the user you want to block/unblock by typing in their gamertag.
  4. Once you’ve opened their profile, three vertical dots will show up next to their name, click on that icon.
  5. From the list of options, find and click on the ‘Block’ feature.
  6. To unblock someone, follow the exact same steps, only click on ‘Unblock’.

Blocking message requests from the mobile app

  1. After downloading and logging into the Xbox app, locate and click on the ‘Socials’ feature.
  2. Find the ‘Chats’ feature, and click on ‘Message Requests’ in the following section.
  3. From the list of message requests you received, select the one you want to block.
  4. Click on the profile of the user who sent you the message, and click on the ‘More Actions’ icon.
  5. From there, click on ‘Block’.

These are all the possible ways to block and unblock other users on Xbox’s network. Bear in mind, if you’re constantly being spammed or insulted by a certain member, report that user, and submit a request to Xbox to have the user removed from the platform permanently.
