Exciting news for gamers around the globe!
Discord, one of the most popular apps for communication, and Sony PlayStation have teamed up for a new collaboration.
Discord and Sony announced their integration in May 2021, but the feature is gradually being rolled out from the beginning of 2022.
The new integration allows gamers to connect their PS accounts to their Discord servers which will give them the ability to display their game activity in their user's profiles.
In addition, users will be able to link their PSN ID to their discord profile, so other users can add them as a friend there.
PS4 and PS5 are the available PlayStation consoles.
The integration between Sony and Discord essentially means that Discord users will be able to see which game you are currently playing on your PS4 or PS5.
In an earlier statement, regarding the new collab Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan explained the company wants to “Bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on console and mobile starting early next year, allowing friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together.”
However, the cross-platform feature is not a new one. In fact, this is something that Xbox users have been able to do since 2018.
The linking can only be done from the Discord app on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, or the web. You can’t link PSN and Discord using your console.
There are a few benefits from connecting your PSN account to Discord besides the possibility of a shared gaming experience.
The user will also be able to display their PSN ID, the games they are playing, allowing anyone to jump in and play with them, and how long they have been playing the game.
As previously said, for now, the option is available for limited regions.
Discord also integrates with other popular apps such as Battle.net, Facebook, GitHub, Reddit, Spotify, Steam, Twitch, Twitter, Xbox, and YouTube.
